ObtainR is a terrorist organization featured in Tom Clancy's Elite Squad.
History[]
Scientists Dr. Carine Carlsen and Dr. Theodore Crane created ObtainR together as a robotics organization.
At some point, however, Dr. Crane, obsessed with his creations, created an AI to manage ObtainR's worldwide businesses. A large-scale cyberattack, presumably staged by Crane himself, happened with C², the AI itself, which then retaliated by locking out all of ObtainR's employees and beginning mass-production of defensive security androids. Dr. Carlsen's attempts at shutting it down were unsuccessful, and she was locked up in Singapore by Crane himself, but not before he revealed he was building a "new superweapon" with C² itself.
Later, in 2020, Crane began abducting Specialists of the Elite Squad Initiative and keeping them in a prototype facility in Bolivia, in an attempt to create second-generation androids fighting like mirrors of said targets. Using a C²-provided neural link, he extracted sensitive data from the captured members and transferred them to the androids. In response, he deployed his androids to capture Specialists from both sides of the initiative - criminal and military alike. From then on, he also acquired military tactics, weapon blueprints, and ESI member profiles.
ESI responded by rescuing one of the specialists. In retaliation, Crane abducted Fourth Echelon operative Anna Grímsdóttir and held her in Valletta, only for her to be subsequently rescued, along with Carlsen later on. Their next engagement in Manhatten happened after Crane realized Carlsen leaked the location of C²'s source code USB, and despite securing it first, fails to escape with it.
Following the loss of the drive, Crane, as a diversion, launched an assault on London International Airport, with his real objective being to advance the next phase of his android project: A massive, heavily armed, and autonomous floating android factory built in a private shipyard in Nagoya, the superweapon he was talking about prior. He also had C², on the facility itself, send out decoy signals to camouflage the location of the prototype facility. This effort fails as ESI eventually uncovers the location of the facility, shuts it down, and rescues their Specialists.
Unfortunately for the ESI, these prove to be minor setbacks to Crane's plan, as by the time he is apprehended in his rooftop villa, he had already launched the facility, with a course set for either the Arctic or Southern Oceans. This led to the ESI trying to track the facility.
Trivia[]
- ObtainR replaced Umbra as the main antagonists of the game in the November 4th, 2020 patch following backlash caused by Umbra's raised fist symbol. This also resulted in a completely new story for the game and the replacement of the Umbra (Campaign) with ObtainR (Campaign).
