Cut content
The subject of this article, Umbra, has been cut from the current version of Tom Clancy's Elite Squad.

Umbra is a terrorist organization that was featured in Tom Clancy's Elite Squad.

Due to the backlash caused by Umbra's raised fist symbol, the faction was cut from the game and replaced with ObtainR. This caused all cinematics and references to the imagery to be removed in the November 4, 2020 patch. This also resulted in a complete replacement of the game's story and mission descriptions.

History[]

In 1997, Avery Tombs founded Bastion, a security contracting company. Bastion served national governments in crisis zones around the world. Its early years were marked by highly successful operations featuring very limited collateral damage. In 2009, Bastion purchased a technology company named Umbra. Umbra developed the APEX AI which is a behavioral recognition software which was later turned into a live global surveillance program.

By 2016, Bastion made Umbra a secret division of Bastion. The original intent of Umbra was to operate in the shadows, using violent and morally dubious techniques to obtain and deliver valuable Intel to Bastion without being associated to it.

In 2020, Bastion spearheaded a coordinated global effort to eradicate international criminal networks. Bastion gave the leaders of these groups a choice to either join with Bastion or be destroyed. It was not long after that Bastion grew out of control and turned APEX on its former employees. Several elite international operatives were sent to arrest Avery Tombs at Bastion's headquarters near Monument Valley, Arizona. Tombs was killed in the ensuing firefight.
